Release Notes

On this page you will find an overview of the software updates released by sonnen for sonnenBatteries from generation eco 8.0/hybrid 8.1. We are constantly developing the sonnenBatterie and regularly provide improvements and new features free of charge to you.

Important Note:

Please note that your new sonnenBatterie software downloads and installs are automated if you have an internet connection. No further action is required on your part. 

If your system is offline for more than 8 weeks, please connect it to the internet, so that your system can download and install any available updates. If you only want to download and install mandatory updates, please contact your installer for technical support.

• [US eco and ecoLinx] External generator now function during grid outage events with both sonnen eco & ecoLinx.

• [sonnenBatterie 10 performance, sonnenProtect 8000] If an overload is caused by high reactive power, the system is no longer switched off completely but indicates overload by an orange flashing sonnen Eclipse.

Feature:

• [sonnenCore+, sonnenEvo] Users can now see that the system is CRD compliant along with the “CRD version,” in accordance with the UL 1741 standard within the Dashboard.
   

Bugfix:

• [Global system fleet] The imprint “contact details” has been updated in the Commissioning Assistant and Dashboard.
• [eco, ecoLinx] The systems will no longer switch operational modes from backup-power to self-consumption without user input.
• [Global system fleet] Improved accuracy in the portal for production and consumption values when in manual or automatic standby mode.

Changes:

• sonnenProtect 4000: switching into backup mode works more reliable in case only one sonnenModule 4 is installed in the sonnenBatterie 10.
• eco, ecoLinx, sonnenCore+, sonnenEvo: customers can now view their complete system history in the portal without any data gaps in the graph.
• sonnenBatterie Evo, sonnenEvo: While off-grid, when SOC reaches to 90%, the system's frequency will now shift and disconnect the PV inverter to avoid overcharging.
• sonnenBatterie 10, sonnenBatterie 10 performance, sonnenCore+. sonnenBatterie Evo, sonnenEvo: The system will no longer unnecessarily activate a full charge in cascade systems.

Changes:

• [sonnenCore+ stacking]: First time supporting on grid stacking for up to 3 systems allowing expansion of systems.
• [sonnenCore+ stacking]: The back-up buffer of the secondary system is now synchronized to the value of the primary system after reconnection.
• [sonnenBatterie EVO]: Back-up functionality has been improved and it is working as expected during off-grid conditions.
• [sonnenBatterie EVO]: Over-discharge issue is resolved and the system discharges according to the actual load consumptions.

Changes:

• Self-Consumption Relay works normally as per the set threshold power and holding time.
• Improvement of sonnenBatterie 10 performance stability leads to correct data visualization of the state of charge on the customer portal, thus avoiding showing false sudden drops or jumps.
• In sonnenBatterie 10 performance, offgrid switching after the grid reconnection is correctly shown on the eclipse and the dashboard.

Changes:

• Dashboard 2.0: In previous versions, the backup buffer was displayed twice. This has now been corrected. 
• Dashboard 2.0: Spanish is now available as an additional language. 
• API V2: New data points for requesting battery module data and inverter data were additionally implemented. 
• Cascade systems: Some improvements have been made to stabilize the operation of cascaded systems. One enhancement is a more sensitive trickle charge behavior for the primary and all secondaries.

Changes:

• Adaption of lower and higher power limits for full charge requests for better operation of inverter and system. The new limit can be overwritten by the VPP in case more power is required.
• Overload and microgrid functionality with sonnenBatterie 10 performance and sonnenProtect 8000 systems work normally again.
• Eliminating Hybrid 9.53 systems going into manual standby and causing SOC drops and F1 switch open.
• When a cascade system was commissioned successfully and in normal operation, then all systems report the correct SOC on the dashboard, and it matches with the SOC on the battery page.

Changes:

• Application Programming Interface Version 1 will be replaced by Version 2 which is more secure and improved.
• The sonnenSmart-Plugs will no longer be supported.
• sonnenModule 3: The issue of the battery being stuck at 10% State of charge after a full discharge was detected and has been fixed.
• Cascade systems: Pairing will not be lost between Primary and Secondary systems. Primary and Secondary systems will now have the same backup-buffer level.

Changes:

• Hybrid systems: Enable black start functionality with the newest software version & correction of black start functionality for systems with low SOC.
• Self-consumption relay: Correction applied to hold minimum switch-on duration.

Changes:   

• sonnenBatterie 10 performance: Advanced reporting of inverter error conditions.
• sonnenModule 4: Bug fixed that was causing false error messages.
• Manual charge/discharge during self-consumption did not stop automatically for some systems. Now this got fixed with a default stop after 30 seconds for all systems.
• Cascade: The IP configuration is now changed automatically if a system gets another IP address.
• Hybrid systems: Backup buffer hysteresis is now followed correctly while charging.
• Malfunctioning of PV power reduction leading to temporal constant power limitation was resolved.

Changes: 

• If the feed-in limit is set to 100%, the "Weather forecast" function is no longer displayed on the dashboard. For systems that do not have a feed-in limit, the intelligent charging management function and therefore also the weather forecast is not required.
• If you operate several sonnenBatteries in a cascade, the devices are now no longer referred to as "Master" and "Slave,” but are called "Primary" and "Secondary".
• The issue where sonnenBatterie hybrid 9.53 models, with 3 or 4 battery modules, had a charging limit set to 3,080 W has been resolved.

Restriction: for sonnenBatterie 10 performance, these changes will only come with version 1.6.18

Changes:

• For systems with sonnenModule 3: If the battery has not been fully charged for 15 consecutive days, a full charge from the grid is carried out for battery maintenance. Previously, this was only triggered after 30 days, but for longevity reasons and in preparation for the next winter, this has now been adjusted. Furthermore, it has been improved so that the full charges for battery maintenance are reliably carried out regularly.
• After an internet connection or a general power failure, the Eclipse of the sonnenBatterie would pulsate Orange for a longer period. This has been improved with the new version.
• The issue revolving around incorrect values being displayed in the portal during emergency power operation has now been resolved.
• No software update can take place during emergency power operations. This prevents the sonnenBatterie from switching off after the update.

Changes: 

• sonnenBatteries with a display received an update of the display software. See "Display Version: 3" below. Furthermore, the textual instructions for the necessary calibration of the display after the update have been improved. 
• In some cases, the charging power for the sonnenBatterie hybrid 9.53 was limited to 1,200 W. This has been resolved.

Changes:

• If there is no internet connection, the sonnenBatterie 10 performance now displays the corresponding error code more quickly.
• The overload LED on the sonnenProtect 4000 and the sonnenProtect 8000 in some cases did not go out after an overload completed.

Changes: 

• The control of the internal fan of the sonnenBatterie 10 performance has been optimised. It now switches on less frequently.
• For sonnenModule 3 and sonnenModule 4 it was fixed that some systems did not carry out the required full charge every 30 days.

Display Version: 3

Installation mandatory: no

Changes:

• Display of energy flows in the new live screen.
• Dynamic display of the energy status as well as the charge level of the sonnenBatterie on the main screen.
• Display and setting of the emergency power buffer when sonnenProtect is activated.
• New display settings such as screen brightness, language, or time format.
• Display of the unit information.
• Unfortunately, due to technical restrictions, the option of setting the radio-controlled sockets had to be removed. The portal (meine.sonnenbatterie.de) can still be used for this purpose. 

Note: If contrary to expectations, the display cannot be operated reliably via the touchscreen, recalibration is necessary. To do this, press the display for approx. 20 seconds and follow the instructions that appear.
